His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, through his letter dated 4th May 1977 to Sankarshan Prabhu, instructed his followers to construct a memorial at his birthplace.

Unfortunately, the land where he was born was sold by his uncles to some other people. Later, the Government of West Bengal acquired these lands and the people living on the property became the legal tenants of the Government. After a lot of struggles, in 2021, just twenty-eight days before Srila Prabhupada’s 125th Appearance Day celebrations, ISKCON could secure the exact place of his birth, which was under the Jackfruit tree. This plot of land is only 3,600 square feet and is too small for building a memorial.

ISKCON Kolkata is currently driving to acquire at least 1.5 acres of land around Srila Prabhupada’s birthplace. This will be done in six phases and will enable all of us to make a befitting memorial. We humbly request you to kindly contribute generously to creating a beautiful memorial for Srila Prabhupada, who built a society in which the whole world can live.
